the 1970s are my favorite decade for both supercar and concept car design. I like to think of it as the era of the "disco spaceship wedges," these long, low, straight, sharp-looking machines. They are evocative and dangerous, unlike anything on the road today. This period has produced a ton of great designs, such as the Lotus Esprit, Lamborghini Countach, DeLorean DMC-12 and others. And these are just the ones that go into production! Concept wedges are even cooler. Of these, Stratos Zero may be my favorite. Of course, this name would be used a few years later on Lancia's famous rally car, but this concept at the 1970 Turin Auto Show had little to do with it. As Autoweek said, the concept was a salvo in the ongoing war between Pininfarina and Bertone and was conceived by the latter as an experiment to see how low they could Decry. The fully functional prototype is powered by a powerful Lancia V4 engine with 115 horsepower, which sits under this crazy triangle-shaped engine cover in the middle of the car. This insignificant power figure didn't matter because Zero was all about his sharp appearance. The seats were almost horizontal, and the long trapezoidal windshield offered a wonderful view of the sky. The interior featured a futuristic instrument panel covered in green glass that reminded me of the interior of a Tesla Model S just 40 years ago. If you grew up in the 1980s and early 1990s, you may remember that Michael Jackson turned into a replica of this car in the movie Moonwalker.
