It is the BAGGER 288 Bucket Wheel Excavator (and later the BAGGER 293, when painted blue) built for the energy and mining firm Rheinbraun. The Bagger 288 was built for pre-coal mining overload removal at the Hambach mine in Germany. It took five years to design and manufacture, five years to assemble, and the total cost reached $100 million. It can carry around 240,000 tons of material per day or 87.6 million tons per year; its operational weight is 13,500 tons, that is, where it takes 4,500 tons of bucket weight per year is beyond me. Even BAGGER 293 BWE max produces 240,000 tons of material per day; just like the BAGGER 288. As for the actual weight of the machines, OMG! The BAGGER 288 max weighs 13,500 tons, while the BAGGER 293 weighs just a little over 14,200 tons; and these pups are the world's largest land-based machines. So where it takes 45,000 tons is beyond me.. It's amazing how far technology has come, from advances in manufacturing to machines becoming more efficient and cost-effective. When we have a project but don't have the right machine for the job, we just build one! Whether it's a massive mass that can crush rocks or a 45,000-ton chainsaw powerful enough to cut mountains, here are 15 Extreme Industrial Machines Made.
