Being in many places may be more important. This has been a problem as long as there have been navies. The real question is how big do you have to be to survive and win. Carriers need Awacks, helicopters for multiple missions, liaison planes. These take up the same space in large or small carriers. This limits the active force projection. Balance is important.
The only negative I can think of is seaworthyness in heavy seas. My carrier went straight through stormy seas and our support ships being smaller had to divert around the storms. USS Oriskany CVA 34 1967 to 1970 three trips to gulf of Tonkin. Many places where we couldn,t go because of size. Many inland ports, needed 40 feet for draft wasn't available. Also could not go under golden gate bridge at high tide. Got stuck in the mud a couple of times, once right next to The Arizona in pearl harbor hawaii. Good idea for speedy incursions etc.
